Natural Sunburn Remedies

Anyone who has ever suffered a sunburn, knows it is just that- suffering. Even if you have applied ample amounts of sunscreen, burns can, and do happen. Once the sting begins, you know you are in for it. You can buy multiple expensive products at any store that claim to "soothe the burn."

What all these fancy green and blue gels often do not mention, but you will discover if you read the label, is that they contain alcohol- which has a drying effect on the skin. This is often the opposite of what you really need during times of burn. You end up putting on layers and layers of these gels to get the job done because they are not pure aloe. Most sunburns would be soothed from real aloe, but often having access to a real aloe plant is not realistic. They are expensive and you would nearly kill the plant if you broke off enough of what you would need to really treat a serious sunburn. While pure aloe would do wonders for a sun burnt shoulder or nose, there are other home remedies that are cheap and really work to heal the skin.

Distilled vinegar or apple cider vinegar is the next best thing. You can put the vinegar into a bath and soak or put some in a spray bottle, and just spritz all over the burned area of your body. Do not rub it in, but let it air-dry. Re-apply multiple times and by morning, you will well be on your way to healing. Vinegar helps to calm the burn and can help prevent blisters from forming. Chilling the vinegar is another way to ensure relief with this home remedy. No one wants to be sunburned, and even those who are very conscious of sun exposure can find themselves sunburned when they least expect it.

The next time you this happens, try a home remedy and compare the outcome.
